Most peptide suppliers publish one certificate per product and leave it online for years. That document tells you nothing about the vial in your hand. Vitality Labs publishes a certificate per lot, and the lot code on your vial is the key that ties the two together.
The four numbers that matter
- HPLC area percentage — the proportion of the main peak against everything else eluting from the column
- Observed mass from LC-MS — confirms you have the intended sequence, not a same-weight impurity
- Peptide content versus net weight — salt and residual water can account for a surprising share of vial mass
- Counterion content — acetate versus trifluoroacetate changes solubility and can confound cell-based assays
Chromatogram red flags
- A truncated x-axis that hides late-eluting hydrophobic impurities
- Purity quoted as '≥99%' with no chromatogram image attached
- No analysis date, or an analysis date years older than the batch
- A laboratory name that cannot be verified independently

Is 99% purity meaningfully better than 95%?
For reproducibility, yes. The 4–5% difference is composed of deletion sequences and oxidation products that behave as uncontrolled variables in a culture model.
Why does the counterion matter?
Trifluoroacetate residues have documented effects in some cell assays. Knowing which counterion is present lets you decide whether a salt exchange is required for your protocol.
