GHK-Cu is a tripeptide (glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine) bound to a copper(II) ion. The copper is not an impurity or an additive — it is a structural part of the complex, and it is why the lyophilised powder is distinctly blue.
Reading the colour correctly
- Deep royal blue powder indicates a well-formed complex
- Pale or patchy blue can indicate incomplete complexation or moisture ingress
- Green tones suggest oxidation or contamination and warrant a check against the published certificate
- Colour is an indicator, never a substitute for the analytical result
Verification differs from standard peptides
A standard HPLC purity figure describes the peptide backbone. For GHK-Cu, copper content must also be reported, because a certificate showing 99% peptide purity says nothing about whether the copper is correctly bound. Vitality Labs publishes both figures per lot.
